How to do wedding/party makeup at home

Want to do wedding/party makeup at home?

So many of us love getting ready for a wedding or a Diwali party or on New Year’s Eve at home. Many of us get confused as to what comes first – eye makeup or foundation, eyeliner or mascara? How to put it all together? This guide is intended to help you in those situations. Hopefully, I have explained the entire look in easy-to-follow steps. So lets get ready for a wedding or party at home!

Step 1: Always begin with skincare and then follow up with foundation

Make sure that you are using your regular moisturizer & allowing it to seep into the skin at least for 15 minutes before moving on to foundation. After moisturizer & before foundation, I would strongly recommend using a face primer. A primer makes your foundation last longer, it acts like a barrier between your skin & foundation & also makes the application of the foundation smooth. Now since you’d need your makeup on for many hours at night (or even during the day), a primer should be applied. Next, apply your choice of foundation – powder, liquid or cream. Make sure that you set the liquid or cream foundation with a loose powder so that your foundation stays put all through!

Step 2: It’s Eye shadow time!

Remember, your eyes should not ‘match’ your outfit. Instead it should ‘compliment’ the colors on your dress. Meaning, use colors that are the opposite of the colors on your dress. The key to applying eye shadow is using a flat eye shadow brush & then using a fluffy dome shaped brush to blend. Make sure to apply a darker color in your crease & follow it up with a highlighter up to your brow bone. This softens any harsh lines that may be visible to the naked eye.

Step 3: First comes kajal followed by eyeliner

Apply a black, brown, blue or green colored kajal in the waterline & then line the lash line with black eyeliner. You could use a pencil, gel or liquid liner – whichever you feel convenient to use. If you’d like, add a ‘flick’ at the outer corner of the eye to add some drama. Indian women look great in a winged liner. Never EVER do a smoky eye & a red lip! It’s always ‘smoky eyes with nude lip’ or ‘bright lips with nude/neutral eyes’. Only if you are walking the ramp you can go for ‘smoky eyes & a dark or red lip’! In this case, I would suggest that you do your eye makeup first and then move on to foundation because you are going to have a lot of fall outs from the eye shadow

Step 4: Time to curl lashes & apply mascara

An eye lash curler is the most underrated makeup product! Just using a curler can make your eyes look ‘awake’! Apply mascara from the roots of the lashes & wiggle the wand in a zig-zag motion till the tip. This will nicely coat the lashes individually & will add definition & volume. Remember, always curl first and then apply mascara. If you do it the other way around, your lashes are going to break!

Step 5: Blush, Contour & Highlight

For a natural looking glow, apply blush on the apples of your cheeks upwards, going into the hairline. The best way to judge where blush needs to be applied is by smiling in the mirror… Use a big fluffy brush to blend the blush on the cheeks. Next, use a brown-matte shade which is 2 shades darker than your skin color to contour your cheeks. This will add structure to your face & will make your face look slimmer in pictures! Suck in your cheekbones, notice the hollows & apply the contouring powder just there & blend! No lines must be visible. It needs to look most natural. To highlight, apply a shimmer blush or powder on the high plains of your face, i.e. the T-zone & cheekbones. The idea of applying a highlighter is simple – when light falls on any of these areas; your skin is going to give out a sheen/glow which looks amazing – especially in photographs.

Step 6: Pucker up

Before starting lip makeup take some face powder on your brush and run it over your lips to make it even . then line your lips with the help of a lip pencil. I feel that lip liners are brilliant as they act as a base for your lipstick! Fill the entire lip with the pencil & then run the lipstick over. Take a tissue & place it on your lips & run some loose powder with a brush over it. This will make the lipstick matte & will make it last much longer! Next, apply another coat of the lipstick & gently press a tissue over. After doing this, if you eat or drink anything, your lips are going to look as fresh as new!

Step 7: Smile

Now that you've followed all the steps, walk with confidence & don’t forget that million dollar smile! Be sure to notice heads turn & people compliment you. If they don’t, they are just jealous :-p Remember, even if you haven’t followed a certain step to the T, no one will notice it if you seem confident & happy!

Winter makeup

Winter makeup
tips and tricks for applying face  makeup during the cold winter months.

Color Match

Most of us lose our summer color during the wintertime. Therefore, it’s important to make sure that your foundation and concealer still match you. If the color looks too dark or orange on your skin tone, then it’s best to get a lighter color that suits you.

Foundation Finish

During the winter, luminous or dewy finishes look best. They help to hide imperfections such as dry or flakey skin. If you prefer matte, it’s still fine to use. However, make sure that your skin is super hydrated and use a foundation primer. Otherwise, the matte finish will point out the uneven texture of your skin.

Prep & Smooth

Whenever a client comes in to get her makeup done, I always start with skincare! Even if she has nothing on but moisturizer, I always gently exfoliate the skin. Then, I follow up  with a hydrating serum (this step is crucial), eye cream and moisturizer. Prior to applying foundation, I dab on a little face primer, which gives her makeua super flawless and smooth look.

Healthy Boost of Color

Last but not least, for a finishing touch, I always make sure to add color on the eyes, lips or cheeks. :)

Best Summer Makeup Tips

Hey I am going to go over some summer makeup tips.
Summer means hotter weather, humidity, and longer days spent outside. It's a great opportunity to try a freer approach to your make-up by making a few adjustments to your usual routine.

Incorporate Primer in Your Makeup Routine

For summer, it's best to start at the very beginning, with a primer. Some people will use primer throughout the year, if this is not part of your routine -this lightweight base will fill-in lines and creases, while helping your make-up last longer.
With the rest of your make-up, lighter is better from colors to the amount you wear.

Tinted Moisturizers can Replace Foundation

Start by swapping your typical foundation for tinted moisturizer. Wearing a sheer tinted moisturizer in place of a foundation will greatly reduce the overall make-up being worn and prevent that oily feeling that can build up in hot weather. While it may not create the completely finished look of a foundation, it will add a bit of color to your face while letting your skin shine through. Also, many tinted moisturizers have some amount of sun protection that will help fight against the summer sun.
If you need additional coverage, try adding a powder foundation in just the troublesome areas.

Wear Tinted Balms Instead of Lipstick

Similarly, instead of heavy, saturated lipstick, try tinted lip balm. Not only will this take weight out of your overall style, but the lighter colors are more in line with the summer look.
If you do want to use a heavier lipstick, be sure to set it with powder before heading out.

Finish Summer Makeup Routine with Bronzer

Now that we have taken some of the weight out, let's add something in with a bronzer.
Bronzer can make your face pop, bringing out your eyes and making your teeth look a little whiter. As with every other tip, less is more. Keep from going overboard by applying this to only the high points-forehead, cheekbones, chin, and nose. Also, make sure to give it a balanced look by brushing it on your earlobes and neck.
Finally, when you're out and about, bring along blotting papers to take care of your T-zone.  When you use one, follow up with a pressed power that contains some luminescence

Make-Up Concealing Techniques

Dermatologists and doctors are investigating into the benefits of concealing scars with makeup as a way to improve quality of life.  In France, 129 patients with various skin diseases, including those with acne scars and acne rosacea, were taught how to use make-up to conceal and “correct” their complexion. They applied the camouflage make-up techniques learned directly from a cosmetician for a month.

There were no negative side effects and nothing bad to report from using the corrective concealer and make-up. All patients looked significantly better in their skin appearance and they reported their quality of life improved significantly.

This new area of investigation is called medical corrective make-up, corrective camouflage make-up, and camouflage make-up.

Know the Expert Make-Up Tricks

When using make-up to conceal scars, different make-up artists use slightly different techniques. Here’s a chart on the concealer colors that are used most often to hide different colors of scars.

Color of the Scar             Color of Concealer to Use

Red scar                                   Green concealer

Pink scar                                  Green concealer

Brown scar                              Yellow concealer

Purple scar                              Yellow concealer

White scar                                Regular makeup

You can purchase different color concealers from various make-up companies.

Use Make-Up Layering Techniques

When using make-up to conceal acne scars, use layering techniques. Here’s a suggested routine to use:

First use your scar removal formula. Having this closest to the skin makes sense as you want as much healing to occur in the skin.
Next cover the acne scars with the colored concealer.
Then use a make-up base color that matches your skin tone.
Finally, follow the color concealer chart above to find a concealer :0 few shades lighter than your regular skin tone to dot on top of the acne scars for the final layer of acne scar cover-up.
Now look in the mirror. You’re looking great! Tips from the experts really help!
